Sporting Challenges

Signing up to a sporting event is a great way to motivate yourself to achieve your fitness goals. Whether you want to start getting active, train for a specific event, achieve a personal best or help fundraise for a specific charity, hopefully the list of events below will provide some inspiration.


Sport Relief - The Edinburgh Mile
1mile, 3mile and 6mile events in the city centre.


The Kilomathon is a unique running event of 26.2 kilometres. This equates to 16.3 miles making it a perfect race distance for a stand alone challenge or as part of your training for a Marathon. 

Edinburgh Rock n Roll Half Marathon
The official race course will run through of some of the most scenic areas of Edinburgh, including Holyrood Park and its glorious views of Arthurs Seat, Scottish Parliament, The Queen’s Palace at Holyrood, Edinburgh Castle, the Meadows, Grassmarket, Cowgate and Portobello Promenade.


Edinburgh to North Berwick Road Race 
Entries can be submitted in advance on the official entry form or you can register on the day, space permitting. 

Midlothian Megacycle
Sign up for this charity "Megacycle" family cycle ride from Penicuik, Midlothian to the Prestongrange Museum, East Lothian, a distance of some 20 miles.

North Berwick Triathlon
The triathlon starts with a 250m swim, before competitors collect their bikes for a 10km cycle on local roads finishing with a 4km run.

Edinburgh Marathon
Considered the fastest marathon in the UK due to the overall elevation drop of 40m which should make it a good course for those looking for a good time or a personal best.

Scottish Half Marathon
The Scottish Half Marathon follows the same route as the Edinburgh Marathon but starting later in the day. 


Walk for Scotland 
Starting at Holyrood Park, The Walk for Scotland is a fun and memorable event for all abilities over 12, 6.7 or 1 miles.

Run for Scotland
If you’re a runner rather than a walker then join in the 5K run around Holyrood Park. Starts at 9.30am in Holyrood Park.

Toddle for Scotland
Bring your little ones (6 or under) for the very first Toddle for Scotland on Sunday 5th June in Holyrood Park. There will be different toddle distances to suit each age group. Parents with buggies are welcome.

Moon Walk Edinburgh
Ladies (and gentlemen) dawn your bras and head out on the moonlight walking challenge of either a half (13miles) or the full moonwalk (26.2miles) around the sights of Edinburgh. 

MHFS 10km for Men
Run, walk or jog this 10km event at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow on Father's Day in aid of Men's Health Forum Scotland. 

Red Cross Edinburgh Night Ride
Cycle 50 miles along Edinburgh's twisting, turning streets in the dead of night.


North Berwick Tennis Tournament


North Berwick Law Race
There are no advance entries - registration is from 6pm on the day of the race, for a 7.30pm start.


Pedal for Scotland
Take to your bikes this weekend and challenge yourself in the great Glasgow to Edinburgh Cycle Challenge. There are three routes to choose from: Challenge Ride - 51 miles; Sportive Ride - 100 miles or the Family Ride, a short 3 mile off road for families, youngsters and new cyclists.

Bupa Great Edinburgh Run
