For the Gym Monkeys class children must be at least 3 years old on the first day of the class. If they are 5 years old but still at nursery they can still attend this class. Children can only move onto the recreational gymnastics programme when they are attending primary school.

Q: What do they need to wear?
Participants should dress appropriately for physical activity, shorts and t-shirt are perfect, leggings and tracksuit bottoms are also acceptable. Denim, dresses and skirts are not appropriate as they can be restrictive to movement and get caught up in equipment. Please ensure that long hair is tied back, with no hard hair bands. No jewellery is allowed. All gymnasts must have bare feet (no socks) to ensure that the risk of slipping is minimised.

Q: What are the term dates?
Baby Gym, Tumble Bugs and Gym Monkeys classes runs on a termly basis which is parallel to the schools term time dates please click here for details.

Depending on which term your child joins, these can last between 8 and 10 weeks. Some Sports Centres may run holiday programmes where there are extra classes.

Q: Do I need to stay with my child?
In the Baby Gym and Tumble Bugs class (18months – 3years) the parent is actively involved in the class and must stay with their child throughout the session.

In the Gym Monkeys class the child works independently and parents/guardians must leave the hall during the class, however they must stay within the centre. The coaches will inform you of your child’s progress and will be available at the end of the class for any questions or queries.

Q: Do I need to book?
All participants are required to register for the class in advance of a block. Two weeks prior to the end of a block, priority registration is available to those currently participating in a block. Thereafter spaces left in classes will be filled from children on the waiting list / opened up to the general public. To secure your child’s place in the class, please book in advance to avoid any disappointment.
