£1.6m Maintenance Upgrade at Dunbar Leisure Pool

Saturday 13th February 2016
Dunbar Leisure Pool's Maintenance Update has now been completed and the centre has reopened in its entirety. We would like to thank all of our customers for the patience and understanding while we have been completing these important upgrades.

Dunbar Leisure Pool Upgrade

One of East Lothian’s premier leisure and tourist attractions, Dunbar Leisure Pool is set to receive a £1.6+ million investment this autumn as its owner’s enjoyleisure, announce large-scale plans to give the Centre a maintenance upgrade that will secure the presence of this highly popular visitor destination for years to come.

Having just celebrated its 23rd year in operation, Dunbar Leisure Pool has welcomed millions of visitors to Dunbar over the years as the dedicated Sports and Leisure centre within the town. The planned upgrades will dramatically improve the longevity of the Centre, safeguarding its existence to ensure it can serve the local community as a sports and leisure hub and continue to be a major contributor in boosting the local economy by attracting visitors to the town for the next 20+ years.

Commencing on Monday 26th October, Dunbar Leisure Pool will embark on an extensive maintenance programme. Major works include the replacement of the air handling units which regulate the air temperature through the centre; electrical rewiring throughout; and the installation of a new switch board. Refurbishments to the flume; including relining of the flume itself and structural repairs to the supporting staircase and a drain down of the pool to allow a deep clean and re-grouting are also planned. This work, although commissioned by enjoy could not have been undertaken without the professional support of our partners East Lothian Council, and more specifically Property Colleagues led by Paul Iannetta and his team.

While the majority of the tasks will take place behind the scenes, customers will benefit from the installation of a brand new Steam Room, upgrades to showering facilities in the pool area, refreshed decoration and greatly improved LED lighting throughout the building.

The improvements will also enable enjoyleisure to take a much more sustainable approach to environmental concerns and energy efficiencies. Following the £105,000 investment in solar panels in the summer of 2012, Dunbar Leisure Pool has been motivated to lower its carbon footprint and impact on the local environment. Continuing in this spirit, the new air handling units are much more energy efficient compared to their 1990s counterparts; and the LED lighting will reduce electricity usage by half.

enjoyleisure General Manager Bill Axon commented; “Dunbar Leisure Pool is a highly regarded attraction within the county. This significant investment is not only enjoyleisure’s commitment to ensuring the longevity of this facility and its services for the local community to enjoy. But also its wider commitment to the local economy for the provision of an attraction that draws visitors from much further afield, enticing additional spends in the area.”

Bill Axon continued, “We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all our customers for their patience and understanding while we complete these important upgrades. I would also like to pay tribute to Gordon Wales the chair of enjoy and all other directors for their support and vision in approving this significant investment. As an organisation we have acted with due diligence to ensure funding was in place to guarantee the ongoing provision of services and activities within Dunbar, which is a significant achievement. This goes a long way in evidencing enjoy’s ongoing and continuing commitment to providing healthy physical activities for the communities we have been set-up to serve.”
